  • 2 cups milk Use whole milk for a richer flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder High-quality cocoa powder is recommended.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Adjust to taste for sweetness.
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract Add for flavor enhancement.
  • 1 pinch salt To enhance flavors.
  • Whipped cream or marshmallows Optional toppings.

Preparation

  • In a small saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Add in about two tablespoons of the milk and mix until smooth.
  • Slowly pour in the rest of the milk while continuously stirring.
  • Heat the mixture over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream or marshmallows if desired.

Notes

Storage: Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat before serving. Variation: Add peppermint extract or chocolate chips for different flavors.
