Ingredients
  

For the hot chocolate

  • 2 cups milk Use whole milk for a richer flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder High-quality cocoa powder is recommended.
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Adjust sugar according to taste.
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch salt

Optional toppings

  • Whipped cream or marshmallows Use as desired for topping.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a small saucepan, combine the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Add in about two tablespoons of the milk and mix until smooth.
  • Slowly pour in the rest of the milk while continuously stirring.

Cooking

  • Heat the mixture over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream or marshmallows if desired.

Notes

Hot chocolate is best served warm. For added flavor, sprinkle some cocoa powder or cinnamon on top. It's delightful with cookies or pastries. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat on low heat before serving.
