  • 2 cups whole milk Use high-quality milk for better flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons sugar Adjust to taste.
  • 4 oz chopped dark chocolate Preferably high quality.
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt
  • As needed Whipped cream For topping, optional.

Preparation

  • In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium-low heat. Do not let it boil.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together cocoa powder, sugar, and salt.
  • Once the milk is warm, slowly pour it into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Whisk until fully combined and smooth.
  • Return the mixture to the saucepan and add the chopped dark chocolate. Stir constantly until the chocolate melts completely and the drink is thick and creamy.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Pour into cups and top with whipped cream if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to two days. Reheat gently to maintain creaminess. For variations, try using different types of chocolate or adding spices.
