Ingredients

For the Hot Chocolate

  • 2 cups whole milk Use high-quality for best flavor.

  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate, chopped Choose high-quality dark chocolate.
  • 1/4 cup sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch Use slightly more if a thicker consistency is desired.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • Remove from heat and stir in the chopped dark chocolate, salt, and vanilla until smooth.

Serving

  • Serve hot in nice mugs and top with whipped cream or marshmallows, or sprinkle with cocoa powder or chocolate shavings.
