Preparation

  • In a saucepan, combine milk, heavy cream, and sugar. Heat over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together cornstarch and a few tablespoons of the hot milk until smooth.
  • Stir the cornstarch mixture back into the saucepan and cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the chopped dark chocolate, salt, and vanilla until smooth.

Serving

  • Serve hot in a nice mug, optionally topped with whipped cream, marshmallows, cocoa powder, or chocolate shavings.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat gently before serving. For variation, consider adding peppermint extract or a pinch of cinnamon.
